SelfCare+: delivers proven dialysis technology in a small, easy to use package

“…innovations in technology are required to transform the presently available machines to home-ready, user-centric designs.”
- Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease, 2009

SelfCare+

SelfCare+ is providing the innovation required to change current practice: improve patient accessibility to haemodialysis at home or at local limited care facilities.

SelfCare+: delivers proven dialysis therapy

SelfCare+

For commercial reasons Quanta is not disclosing actual pictures of SelfCare+. The illustration above is an approximate representation of the system.

SelfCare+ is a small and simple to use, single pass, high dialysate flow rate dialysis machine that provides the same haemodialysis treatment as a hospital machine would provide.

With SelfCare+ patients can dialyse at any time without having to load bags of fluid or wait hours for a batch of dialysate to be prepared.

The SelfCare+ machine receives water from a reverse osmosis machine, heats it to body temperature and then, using a disposable cartridge, it generates high quality bicarbonate-based dialysate on demand.

SelfCare+ is small and portable

SelfCare+ uses a disposable cartridge to generate dialysate for each treatment. As the machine is never in contact with treatment fluids it does not require intensive disinfection and cleaning. This dramatically reduces the size and weight of the machine enabling a full size treatment from a small machine.

SelfCare+ is intuitive and designed with user training in mind

  • SelfCare+ is intuitive and simple to configure and program. The user interface has been designed with input from clinicians, nurses and patients with experience in self care haemodialysis
  • Training time for patients using SelfCare+ is significantly shorter than with traditional machines

SelfCare+ is simple to use

  • The user loads the single-use disposable cartridge and makes some tubing connections to the dialyser, concentrates and blood lines.
  • The machine will prime and notify the user when it is ready for treatment
  • The patient receives the same treatment as he would from a standard machine.
  • The disconnection is as simple as removing the disposables and discarding them safely.
  • The machine is ready for another treatment immediately

Quanta is developing SelfCare+ with input from patients, clinicians, nurses from the UK, Germany, France, the USA and other countries. The design and development has been proven at every stage in close collaboration with the NHS Devices for Dignity (D4D) program, who in the UK are focusing on bringing innovative solutions to the NHS to address independence and quality of life for patients with long term conditions. SelfCare+ is providing the innovation required to change current practice: improve patient accessibility to haemodialysis at home or through local limited care facilities.
